2027 Distinguished Fellow Status
American College of Medical Toxicology (DFACMT)
The DFACMT designation honors Fellows of the College who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to medical toxicology and distinguished service to the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT). This prestigious recognition signifies achievement beyond the standard FACMT criteria and celebrates those who embody the highest ideals of the College.
Who Can Apply
Eligibility requires that you are a current active Full, International, or Emeritus ACMT member in good standing and have held the FACMT designation for at least 10 years.
Applicants must also meet one of the following Service to the College criteria:
- Served as a member of the ACMT Board of Directors for a minimum of 3 years (1 term)
- Lead or co-lead organizer for the ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting or an equivalent ACMT course
- Served as Chair or active member of an ACMT committee or section for at least 3 years with a record of substantial contributions, such as leading key initiatives or advancing the committee’s mission
Distinguished Fellowship Criteria
Applicants must meet three of the five criteria below, each from a different category:
Education
- Speaker at 3 or more national or international toxicology conferences or ACMT Board Review Courses
- Formal teaching of medical toxicology for at least 8 years in roles such as fellowship director, assistant fellowship director, residency rotation director, medical student rotation director, or other major teaching responsibilities
Research
- Editorial board member of Journal of Medical Toxicology for at least 3 years
- Author on at least 10 original research reports (excluding case reports or textbook chapters)
- Lead or senior author on at least 5 original research reports in medical toxicology (excluding case reports or textbook chapters)
Clinical Practice
- Position as Medical Toxicology Section or Division Chief for at least 6 years
- Leadership role in hospital committees, such as Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics, Patient Safety, IRB, or Peer Review/Quality Improvement
Public Service
- Poison Center Medical Director or Assistant Medical Director for at least 8 years
- Government or public committee role in medical toxicology for at least 6 years
- Significant volunteerism
Other Contributions
- Completed one term as an officer or board member of another professional organization
- Other distinguished activities or honors that establish the physician as preeminent in the field of medical toxicology
Application Review
Candidates are evaluated by the ACMT Membership Committee based on exemplary contributions to the field and exceptional service to the College. Qualified applicants are recommended to the Board of Directors for approval.
Recognition and Ceremony
Distinguished Fellows are formally recognized at the ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting, celebrating their extraordinary achievements and impact on the field.
Application Process
The application is member-initiated and does not require nomination. ACMT staff and Membership Committee members are available to answer questions and provide guidance throughout the process.
